48 Stunden Neukölln 2018 - Birds of Birth
This interactive installation was part of the Art Festival '48 Stunden Neukölln' in Berlin. The event took place in KulturCafé - Friedelstrasse 28 - Neukölln from June 22nd till 24th 2018. The festival's theme was 'Neue Echtheit'. At birth we are new and genuine. How can we regain this original quality of being? The Nigerian author Ben Okri puts it this way: 'The most authentic thing about us is our capacity to create. (-) We can re-dream this world and make the dream come real.' Inspired by Ben Okri's vision, my interactive installation 'Birds of Birth' consisted of a canvas portraying seven birds. During this event visitors were writing their fondest wishes with swan feathers on Japanese paper leaves and tied them to the branches of the little birch in front of the 'birds of birth'. At the end visitors were invited to join in a tonglen meditation.
